Review: Siege of Darkness

Siege of Darkness

by J.W. Baccaro

Tragedy strikes Zithel, and the city of monks goes up in flames. The Earth-Wizard Mazarian has disappeared, and the army of Asgoth has taken back the Wizard Crystals of the Elements, ready to deliver them into the hands of their master: the Demon Lord Abaddon, where they will be corrupted and used against the very elements they were created to protect, deforming the world to a blackened void. Continue >>>>>

As Darshun Luthais—the chosen Guardian of earth—emerges from the mystical Shajin Island, having completed his training, ready to combat the forces of evil, he not only finds himself in the center of this chaos, but is also torn in different directions. Part of him longs to obey the wisdom of the Elders by relocating the crystals and fleeing Asgoth, while his Nasharin nature thirsts for battle, eager to take on the many trials that stand in his way, keeping him from what he desires most, challenging Abaddon, the ultimate terror.

My View and Review

Siege of Darkness by J.W. Baccaro is absolutely breath taking and amazing! Something happens in the very beginning that just rocks it out and makes it impossible to forget. I never seen it coming what so ever. A complete shock to get things going and WOW, it just never stops. The heat is on, literally all through the reading and Darshun never slows down with his energy or attitude. In fact if you think Darshun is a cocky little SOB in book one, you will certainly see how going to Shajin Island did not tame him one slight bit. I thought Prophecy of the Guardian was great and Siege of Darkness is even better!

If you read book one of this series, you know that Darshun has gone to Shajin Island and that is where the book ended. Now we start off in book two with Darshun actually aging the seven years of the Island's time, yet nothing has changed on earth, well not as age is concerned. Changes on earth? Absolutely! The she-elf Kelarin is introduced and she brings with her new friends and great information to share with Darshun. There is great loss in this book for Darshun and all of it works on his emotions hard, making it even more difficult for him to accept or want his destiny. Temptation to surrender to the dark is at its peak. With suffering loss, Darshun will have to make dire choices. What happens to Aurora? And who is Kelarin, the she-elf from Ashhaven? These questions are only a sampling of what is revealed and what is yet to know.

Definitely a power house for fantasy lovers with dark magic, tons of bloody battles, and even some seductive and erotic tones. That hot love scene toward the end of book one between Darshun and Aurora ignites an atmosphere that carries on and lingers well into Siege of Darkness. At Chapter eight of book one (Prophecy of the Guardian) I was on the edge of my seat and that feeling lasted right into and all the way to the very end of book two (Siege of Darkness). A lot is in the waiting now and to be answered in book three (The Coming of The Light) and I am quite anxious to get on with it!

My Favorite Quote
"I am what every mortal fears day or night." he said and grinned. "I am what can not be tamed or quenched. I am Fire-"

My Favorite Part
I was mesmerized by what happens in the beginning with King Adeleric and Aurora, with the explanation of what happened to the King's wife Rosa. Ultimately though my favorite part is when Kelarin tells Darshun about his real father and his connection with Ashhaven, this before he was found as a baby by The Great Mirabel.
